Blog — What is the Sharp Score? (and why profit isn't the metric)
A 0-100 score built from your real betting history — edge evidence, discipline, selectivity, record depth. Never a profit predictor. Here's how it works.
The question every bettor avoids
"Am I any good at this?" Most bettors answer it with a feeling — a hot month, a bad beat they still think about, a mate who's "up big" this season. Almost nobody answers it with a number.
The Sharp Score is our attempt to fix that. It's a 0-100 score built from your own settled betting history. It is not a prediction of future winnings, and it never will be — that distinction matters enough that we're going to spend this whole article on it.
What the Sharp Score actually measures
The score is built from four components:
Add it up and you get a single number. But the number on its own isn't the interesting part — the *shape* of the four components is, because it tells you which part of your game is actually weak.
Why it's a skill metric, not a profit proxy
Here's the uncomfortable truth about betting results: over a small sample, they are mostly noise. A reckless bettor can go on a 20-bet heater and look brilliant. A genuinely disciplined, edge-having bettor can run cold for two months and look useless. If we built a score around short-run profit, we'd mostly be measuring luck and calling it skill — which is exactly the lie tipsters sell.
So the Sharp Score deliberately does NOT reward being up money this week. It rewards the things that are actually within your control and that correlate with good process over the long run: are you selective, are you disciplined about stakes, and — the hardest one — is there real statistical evidence of an edge, not just a lucky streak.
That's also why the Discipline and Selectivity components exist at all. A bettor with zero edge but excellent discipline and selectivity will still score respectably, because avoiding self-inflicted damage (chasing losses, staking chaos, betting everything) is a real, measurable skill independent of whether you've found an edge yet.
The provisional ring — why we show uncertainty on purpose
Under 100 graded bets, your Sharp Score ring displays as dashed — "provisional" — with a confidence band around the number. We could hide this and just show you a clean number that looks more impressive. We don't, because a score built on 22 bets and a score built on 220 bets are not the same kind of evidence, and pretending otherwise is the opposite of what this product is for.
Same logic governs every leak or edge claim on your Betting Audit: we only call something a leak or an edge when the 95% confidence interval excludes zero. If the data's not there yet, we say "not enough evidence" instead of guessing. Precision-about-uncertainty is the whole trust model — see how it works in the CLV explainer if you want the mechanics behind the edge-evidence component specifically.

The Sharp Score comes out of the free Betting Audit — upload a bookmaker CSV or screenshots (no signup needed) and you'll get your starting number, the confidence band, and a breakdown of which component is dragging you down. If a leak or edge shows up, it'll be CI-gated, not a guess.
Run the free audit and see where your four components stand today. Or read the audit verdict walkthrough first if you want to know what the report itself actually shows.
